The cognitive health of President Joe Biden has been placed under the microscope by a group of congressional Republicans who question the commander-in-chief’s mental fitness.
In a letter sent to the White House earlier this week, the authors cite public polling which suggests that only 48% of Americans believe that the president is mentally fit. They point to “changes in mood” and becoming “easily upset” as signs of mental decline as defined by the Alzheimer’s Association.
The Republicans write that due in part to those signs, Biden should submit to a cognitive test and publicly release the results.
Two co-signers of the letter sent to Biden were U.S. Reps. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) and Barry Moore (R-Enterprise).
In statements provided to Yellowhammer News outlining their insistence that Biden undergo cognitive testing, the congressmen asserted that the American public deserves reassurance that Biden is mentally capable of discharging the duties of the presidency.
Carl made mention of congressional Republicans’ request last year that the president undergo such testing, to which Biden never issued a response.
“It’s obvious President Biden’s cognitive abilities are in rapid decline. Last year, several colleagues and I asked the President to undergo a cognitive test after becoming concerned with his inability to remember basic things such as where he is, what he is doing, and the names of people around him,” advised Carl. “Our letter never got a response, so we are following up with a simple request for the President to undergo a cognitive test and make the results immediately available to the American people because they deserve to know the truth about whether President Biden is capable of carrying out the duties of his office.”
Moore stressed what he stated to be the importance of verifying the president’s mental soundness as the commander-in-chief holds access to the nation’s nuclear arsenal.
“The American people should have full confidence in the mental state of our Commander-in-Chief, but Joe Biden’s innumerable gaffes, mistakes, and just plain bizarre behavior have many citizens concerned,” proclaimed Moore. “Providing the American people assurance that the man who possesses our nuclear codes is mentally fit to do his duties is not a partisan issue. Why won’t President Biden follow the example set by President Trump and take a cognitive test? What is Biden hiding behind that blank stare?”
