It’s now been a quarter of a century since the attacks on the people of the United States by Islamic radicals — September 11, 2001 to September 11, 2026. The people of Alabama will never forget.
Alabama is one of the most patriotic states, one of the strongest supporters of the military and of veterans, and a state that honors its country and its history.
Governor Kay Ivey has again ordered that flags be lowered to half-staff to commemorate the 9/11 attacks and the lives they affected.
All across Alabama, events commemorating the 9/11 attacks are scheduled during this anniversary week:
Enterprise: Patriot Day Memorial Ceremony on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 7:30 AM at the Wall of Freedom, Johnny Henderson Family Park.
Foley: September 11 Memorial Service Ceremony hosted by American Legion Post #99 on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 8:30 AM at 2101 S McKenzie St.
Weaver: Steps of Honor: 9/11 Memorial Step Challenge on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Weaver Stadium, where participants take 2,977 steps to honor the lives lost.
Madison: Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Friday, September 11, 2026, starting at 8:00 AM.
Wetumpka: The 1st Annual First Responders Gala on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Wetumpka Civic Center honoring Elmore County first responders.
Gadsden: Gadsden’s Beautification Board Annual 9/11 Memorial Service on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM.
Montevallo: National Day of Service event at the Alabama National Cemetery on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Hoover: 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony and Stair Climb at the Riverchase Galleria Food Court on Saturday, September 12, 2026, starting at 9:00 AM.
Spanish Fort: 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 1 Plaza De Toros.
Gulf Shores: Annual 9/11 Memorial and Stair Climb hosted by Gulf Shores Fire Rescue on Sunday, September 13, 2026, featuring an 8:00 AM beachfront service at West Gulf Place and a 9:00 AM climb at Phoenix Gulf Shores.
