Two Maids and a Mop, a local cleaning service, is using an innovative approach to help Alabamians struggling with cancer.
Partnering with Cleaning for a Reason, a non-profit cleaning organization, Two Maids and a Mop provides free house cleaning to women battling cancer. Autumn Thompson, a member of Two Maids and a Mop, says that the patients “… Can focus on themselves and not worry about cleaning. They’re going to chemo, or they’re battling their own issues, so us going in helps them be able to relax and focus on their health and their families.”
Allowing these women to relax and focus on getting well is just a small portion of the service these maids provide. According to Louise Koronosky, cancer survivor and patron, Two Maids and a Mop are there to build relationships.
“They come in, and they sit and visit. We talk about what’s happening in their life. We talk about what I’ve been doing. What’s happening. . . When you’re going through cancer, you have a lot of down days. You have a lot of feelings, like am I going to make it, it this the end? And you need something at that time to give you that love. . .”
When asked about his motivation behind Two Maids and a Mop, the owner Ron Holt had this to say:
“We’ve all been affected by cancer at some point in our lives. The battle can be intense, lives can be disrupted and everyday activities such as house cleaning may be disregarded. That’s where we come in because we want to make sure that a cancer patient is able to focus on the bigger things like rehab and surgery. We’ve cleaned more than 1,000 cancer patient homes over the past decade and have created many life-long relationships as a result. We love offering the free service and hope the simple act of cleaning a home can make a small difference in a patients life.”
