Alabama fifth congressional district hopeful Casey Wardynski, who formerly served as the Assistant Secretary of the Army under Donald Trump, says if Russian President Vladimir Putin advances on Ukraine, it would be a “miscalculation.”
During an appearance on Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show” just hours before reported aggressive actions from the Russian military, Wardynski was skeptical Putin could successfully move to take the former Soviet province.
“If that happens, in my book, that is a miscalculation,” he said. “Putin will have overestimated his abilities by a long stretch. Ukraine has a population of about a third of Russia. That is a hard swallow for the Russians. They don’t have kind of an army. They don’t have those kinds of forces. It will be a mess for them. The Ukrainians will fight. Once they get into the Ukraine proper and out of these heavily Russian ethnic areas, and our air defenses extend out over that part of the country.”
“Their ability to operate with air forces will be very limited if we so choose,” Wardynski continued. “So, I think Putin goes bit by bit and sees what he can nibble away at and does not try to take it in one swallow. I would find that very surprising if he did. But if he does, he doesn’t respect us a bit. And we better watch out in the Baltics.”
