An estimated 30 jobs are coming to Selma after a private aircraft company announced that it will lease a facility for aircraft maintenance and move some dispatch operations to Craig Field.
City Jet and Turbine Worx, both controlled by businessman Ron Mays, announced Monday the plan to establish the new maintenance operation.
“City Jet and Turbine Worx is the first flying and maintenance/repair operation to select Craig Airport in several years,” Craig Field Executive Director Jim Corrigan said. “This continues our efforts to create opportunities for more good things at Craig Field.”
Mays told the Selma Times-Journal he was excited to make a difference in the City of Selma.
One of City Jet’s contracts is with the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) to carry the sports teams from member schools to their competitions.
“Craig Field has a rich history in aviation, having played a major role in the training of the nation’s military aviators for decades, and the site has significant growth potential,” Alabama Secretary of Commerce Canfield told Made in Alabama.
“We’re committed to exploring ways we can help Selma and Dallas County realize that potential and generate additional activity at Craig Field,” Canfield added.
