Ainsworth debuts ‘Heroes Welcome’ website that has resources for military families new to Alabama

Alabama Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth announced a new web portal called “Heroes Welcome” on Thursday that is aimed at providing military families who have recently moved to Alabama all the resources they need to feel comfortable.

Ainsworth is chair of Alabama’s Military Stability Commission, which is the organization that put together the new website.

The site provides “[g]uidance about jobs, local schools, occupational licensure requirements, and other community resources,” according to the lieutenant governor’s office.

“Providing an easy-to-find clearinghouse about employment opportunities, education, and other important community information demonstrates Alabama’s deep commitment to our military infrastructure,” Ainsworth said in a statement on Thursday.

“[I]t also displays just a hint of our state’s famous southern hospitality,” he added.

Of particular note are the resources for license reciprocity, the idea that a military spouse who is registered to practice a certain profession in another state can work in Alabama while their family is stationed in the Yellowhammer State without going through a drawn out re-registration process.

Heroes Welcome has the point of contact listed for every license board for which Alabama currently extends reciprocity.

“Alabama is already the most military-friendly state in the nation, and creating this website makes us even more welcoming,” said Ainsworth.

The homepage of the Heroes Welcome initiative can be found here.
