Midterms are less than four months away, and Democrats are still fighting commonsense election security measures.
For years, Americans were told our election infrastructure was secure. We now know better. There is an ongoing, documented effort, by domestic bad actors and foreign adversaries alike, to exploit vulnerabilities in our system.
Americans want an election system they can verify, not one they’re simply asked to trust. They’re demanding clear rules: proof of citizenship at registration, a valid ID at the polls, and an end to mail-in ballots except in narrowly defined circumstances. It’s time for Congress to pass the SAVE America Act.
A DHS review of state voter rolls, and public records identified roughly 278,000 non-citizens registered to vote in federal elections. Notably, Democrat-led states that refused to share their voter files were excluded from that count — meaning the true national number is likely higher.
None of what the SAVE America Act proposes is outside the mainstream.
A Fox News poll conducted July 17–20, 2026, found 83 percent of registered voters favor requiring photo ID to register, support that spans Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike.
Several states have already put these standards into practice.
Alabama has required photo ID at the polls since 2011 and strengthened that requirement in 2019 to cover absentee ballot applications as well — a law that has been successfully defended in court. Other states have imposed and defended the same reasonable standard. Congress, and the states still resisting reform, should set politics aside and secure the foundation of this country: fair elections.
Even local media in states with voter ID laws have largely come around to how unremarkable and effective these laws are in practice. So why are Democrats still paralyzed? Part of the answer is mail-in voting, which is inherently less secure than in-person voting and remains popular with the party that generally opposes tightening election security. According to Pew, only 34 percent of Republicans now support early or absentee voting without a documented reason — down sharply from 57 percent in 2018 — even as Democrat support has held steady and Democrat campaign operations have poured far more money and manpower into ballot harvesting. There’s no reason Election Day can’t be conducted, start to finish, in one day and in person.
Election fraud indictments and convictions continue to surface across the country. Foreign adversaries are actively probing and harvesting our voter rolls — a threatthe administration’s own unclassified assessments have made clear. The public is desperate for real confidence in the integrity of our elections.
States like Alabama didn’t wait for Washington’s permission to secure their elections. They wrote the law, defended it in court, and proved it works. The SAVE America Act is now before Congress — tested, popular, and ready to pass. Let’s make it law today.
