AG Marshall demands DHS Secretary Mayorkas resign over ‘under siege’ southern border

Tuesday, Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that he had joined with 13 states’ attorneys general in penning a letter to U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas calling for his immediate resignation.

In a statement announcing his call for Mayorkas’ resignation, Marshall proclaimed that the nation’s borders were “under siege” from foreign criminal elements.

“Today, as our national borders are under siege from criminal drug cartels and human traffickers, placing thousands of Americans’ lives at risk, I am calling on the federal official uniquely responsible for this disaster to resign,” advised Marshall.

Alabama’s chief law enforcement officer slammed Mayorkas over the Biden administration’s refusal to enforce existing immigration law.

“Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is not only ignoring U.S. border security, he is actively promoting homeland ‘insecurity’ through policies of catch and release of offenders while refusing to deport dangerous criminals, even when required by federal law to do so,” added Marshall. “His legacy after only a year in office is an explosion of deadly fentanyl entering America and record increases in sex offenders. Each passing day Secretary Mayorkas’ intolerable performance is further jeopardizing American lives and must immediately end with his resignation.”

Gov. Kay Ivey took to social media to echo Marshall’s call for the DHS secretary to step down from his cabinet position.

Additionally, U.S. Reps. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) and Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) have called for the resignation of the DHS chief.

In the letter, Marshall and the Republican attorneys general note the uptick in illicit fentanyl that was smuggled into the nation’s interior last year. The authors also cite statistics regarding the number of illegal alien sex offenders that have crossed the border and blast the administration’s failure to deport what they referred to as the “some of the most dangerous criminals.”

The letter concludes in part, “You were sworn in as Secretary of DHS on February 2, 2021. On that day, you solemnly swore to ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic.’ You have violated that oath every day since you took office. Americans have died because of your failure to obey the law and do your solemn duty. More Americans will unnecessarily die and suffer for as long as you remain as Secretary. You must resign immediately.”

Marshall co-signed the letter along with the attorneys general from Florida, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and West Virginia.
