After the Alabama Attorney General’s office was the target of a bombing last year, Steve Marshall is praising President Donald Trump’s decision to designate ANTIFA as a terrorist organization.
Trump signed an executive order Monday that said ANTIFA, which is short for “antifascist,” is an “enterprise that explicitly calls for the overthrow of the United States government.”
The move is in part a response to the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Earlier this month, the president said he was planning on making this designation official.
“I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Marshall, who is also a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2026, said he agreed with the decision Tuesday.
“Grateful to President Trump for taking the critical next step and identifying Antifa for what it is—an extremist terrorist group, targeting nationally recognized GOP offices and officials,” Marshall said on X.
The attorney general also pointed out that the man who allegedly detonated an explosive device outside the Alabama attorney general’s office last year had connections to ANTIFA.
According to the Justice Department, Kyle Benjamin Douglas Calvert, 26, of Irondale, was charged with malicious use of an explosive and possession of an unregistered destructive device.
Marshall said he will continue to support Trump’s tough on crime policies if he’s elected as Alabama’s next senator.
“I fully support recognizing ANTIFA as a domestic terrorist organization,” Marshall said. “As Attorney General, I will never tolerate lawlessness and violence- and that is exactly what ANTIFA represents. Their open hostility to the Constitution, use of violence to achieve political ends, and Marxist ideology are a direct threat to public safety and the foundational values of our country.”
