Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) introduced the “Protect Funding for Women’s Health Care Act” in the House of Representatives on Thursday.
It would prohibit federal funding from going to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, or to any of its affiliates, subsidiaries, successors, or clinics. Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States, receives over $670 million in taxpayer funding annually, according to their own data.
“This bill reflects the will of the American people,” Congressman Aderholt said.
“It is important that funding intended to support the health, safety, and well-being of women is not instead funding the killing of unborn babies or the pursuit of a radical agenda.”
“This bill additionally ensures that the funding is redirected back to important health services for women such as cancer screenings, prenatal and postnatal care, immunizations, and other eligible services.”
Rep. Aderholt’s proposal fits as a companion to a Senate version of the legislation.
Congressman Aderholt is joined by 37 original cosponsors in the introduction of this legislation, including Alabama Republican colleagues, Reps. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile), Barry Moore (R-Enterprise), Dale Strong (R-Monrovia), Gary Palmer (R-Hoover).
“The radical Left, led by the Biden Administration, cannot keep ignoring the sanctity of life and crusading against our most vulnerable: the unborn. I am proud to join my colleagues in protecting the right to life and in stopping the use of federal tax dollars in funding such heinous organizations,” Aderholt said.
“In this year’s Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education appropriations bill, I have included a provision which prohibits taxpayer dollars going to Planned Parenthood in annual appropriations funding. The Protect Funding for Women’s Health Care Act goes a step further to ensure that mandatory spending is protected as well.”
