Aderholt: Ending border ‘invasion’ requires Trump-era policies

While it wasn’t U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt’s first visit to the southern border, it was certainly one, he says, that reinforced the urgent need for effective solutions to address the mass illegal immigration currently taking place.

“What is happening at our border – today and every day since President Biden was sworn into office three years ago – is outrageous and must be stopped,” said Aderholt (R-Haleyville). “People were streaming across the border illegally as we watched. And there is no way to know who these people are or what their intentions are. Our border patrol officers, and our nation, are at a breaking point. And the Biden Administration seems to not care.”

The congressman said that the Biden Administration has been hostile to any officials attempting to address the problem.

“The evidence is undeniable. On his first day in office, President Biden rolled back Trump policies that were working, including construction of the border wall,” Aderholt said. “And his administration has attacked anyone who suggests or attempts to fix this disaster, whether it be members of Congress or state and local officials.”

Aderholt said a guaranteed way to address the crisis involves bringing back the immigration policies of the Trump Administration.

“While this is catastrophic, President Biden and Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas have the power right now to begin the process of righting this wrong. They should reinstate President Trump’s ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy immediately. President Biden should finish the border wall before his presidency ends early next year.”

Aderholt said that he has no illusions about the Biden Administration’s expected response to the issue.

“However, I have no confidence that President Biden or his Administration will act,” he said. “While it will be up to the Republicans in the House to use the levers of government at our disposal, it is also up to the voters in November to stop this invasion of our nation’s sovereignty and security.”
