‘A lot more at stake than pride’: Brewbaker endorses former opponent Caroleene Dobson

Former Alabama State Sen. Dick Brewbaker has endorsed his one-time political opponent, Caroleene Dobson, in the hopes of securing a Republican victory in the race for Alabama’s newly-redrawn 2nd Congressional District.

Both Brewbaker (R-Montgomery) and Dobson appeared Wednesday on “Joey Clark Live” on News Talk 93.1 FM to discuss the importance of a concerted, conservative effort to retain the seat.

“There’s a lot more at stake than hurt feelings or pride or whatever it is,” said Brewbaker. “Imagine the Democrats control the House and the Senate. When the last time the Democrats did that, we got Obamacare, and we still haven’t recovered from that.”

“You know, what other parts of the economy is the government going to take over if they have a two-year window of unfettered power to destroy the constitution, to destroy the economy, to destroy checks and balances?”

Brewbaker called the potential situation “nightmarish.”

“So we’ve got to win these competitive congressional seats. The candidate is Caroline Dobson. And people need to stop what they’re doing and go vote on election day.”

Dobson expressed her gratitude to Brewbaker for backing her campaign.

“I am so, so grateful and appreciative of your endorsement,” she said. “That truly means the world.”

Dobson, the Republican nominee for the 2nd District, is facing off against Democrat Shomari Figures, a former high-ranking official in the Obama and Biden administrations from Mobile.
