8 Things you probably missed while busy arguing about the Confederate Battle Flag

Veterans

The Department of Veterans Affairs made a request for even more taxpayer funding, despite its demonstrated inability to deliver timely, quality healthcare to the country’s veterans.

It was revealed earlier this year that the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) still has the longest wait times in the nation, leading Rep. Martha Roby to say:

“Congress has provided record funding for VA services. Since I’ve been in Congress, VA spending has increased 22 percent, and that doesn’t count the record Appropriations bill the House just passed. And, the VA reform bill we passed last year provided an additional $5 billion specifically for the hiring of staff.

“I understand they want to reprogram some of the money, but as a Member of the Appropriations Subcommittee responsible for VA funding, I will first want to take a close look at what exactly they’ve been spending money on so far. Remember, just last month it was revealed that the VA misspends more than $6 billion annually in waste and unlawful contracts.”
