7 Things: More election interference by the DOJ; Birmingham actually making moves toward hiring cops; another Medicaid push; and more …

7. Vice President Kamala Harris has yet to hold an official press conference as the Democratic nominee, despite increasing her media appearances through interviews and campaign events. Critics argue that Harris is avoiding accountability by relying on selective interviews while staying largely inaccessible to the press, as seen in her recent response to economic policy questions in Philadelphia.

6. The dockworkers strike could affect your vacation plans and the gas supply if it goes on long enough if prolonged disruptions affect supply chains, leading to product shortages and increased fuel prices. Toilet paper however is already an issue in some places, as the media tells us, in a panic, toilet paper shortages in U.S. stores are driven by panic buying, not the recent port strike, as most American toilet paper is produced domestically

5. After the 2024 CBS News Vice Presidential Debate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance received widespread praise from Alabama officials for his strong performance against Democrat nominee Tim Walz. U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery), who was present at the debate, described Vance’s showing as “outstanding” and emphasized his ability to connect with the American people while laying out a clear vision for the country.

4. U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) buried Tim Walz’s performance in the vice presidential debate, stating that it was even worse than President Biden’s past debate struggles, which is striking given it pushed Biden out of the race. Tuberville remarked that Walz’s debate mishaps, particularly on gun control, highlighted a weak showing, while praising JD Vance for delivering what he called a “master class.”

3. As aldotcom’s saddest clown is very mad and attacking on Gov. Kay Ivey, which is guaranteed to go nowhere, the governor continues to throw cold water on the idea of Medicaid expansion in the state, a well-hoed road for liberal Alabamians and their media outlets. Ivey’s office has repeatedly made it clear that the cost of expanding Medicaid in the long-term concerns her, but this still comes up every couple of months; calling her a liar seems to be an ineffective strategy

2. Time to hire more cops in Birmingham and the Birmingham police union spokesman supports Mayor Randall Woodfin’s proposal to recruit and retain officers, highlighting that it could lead to more “boots on the ground” and improve pay and benefits. However, union President Deangelo Hall emphasized that while the plan is a positive step, more needs to be done to ensure officers receive competitive wages and benefits to address staffing challenges.

1. Special Counsel Jack Smith’s filing, now unsealed, outlines unchallenged alleged attempts by former President Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 election using fraud and illegal tactics, including claims of coordinating with co-conspirators of “make them riot” which is now found in headlines. This is judicial election interference, with some arguing that it seeks to sway public opinion by emphasizing certain phrases like “make them riot,” despite not being directly said by Trump. In an interview with NewsNation’s “Cuomo,” former President Trump dismissed the special counsel’s filing as containing “nothing new” and criticized it as a politically motivated move ahead of the election.
