A long part of Alabama and Gadsden history ended Saturday – Bobby Junkins died at his home in Rainbow City at age 79.
Junkins served as the Probate Judge of Etowah County for thirty-one years until his retirement in 2019. He previously was Director of the Gadsden Public Library and served two terms in the Alabama House of Representatives.
A political historian, Junkins served on the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Department of Archives and History, beginning in 2004. He served on the boards of Alabama State University and Gadsden State Community College. He is a past president of the Alabama Probate Judges Association
Junkins was a graduate of Gadsden State Community College and Jacksonville State University.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6 at Glencoe-Hokes Bluff Funeral Home at 1901 Piedmont Cutoff in Gadsden.
