It’s an absolutely massive slate on the college football calendar this Saturday with both teams in our state having huge matchups. The Alabama Crimson Tide hit the road for a showdown against Georgia in Athens while the Auburn Tigers head to College Station to take on Texas A&M.
While the state of Alabama is taking center stage, there are some huge games beyond the Tide and Tigers within the SEC and elsewhere.
Here are three you absolutely need to have your eye on this Saturday while you’re taking in Alabama and Auburn.
#22 Notre Dame @ Arkansas
11:00 a.m. CST
This could be the final stand for Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks. The point spread is surprisingly narrow as Notre Dame tries to keep their season alive and Pittman tries to keep his job. Having already taken two losses, a third would eliminate the Irish from playoff contention and having it happen against an SEC team would be oh so sweet for the conference.
Notre Dame is favored by 4.5 and will try to earn what will not be an easy win against an Arkansas team that has shown this year it’s capable of stinging you.
#4 LSU @ #13 Ole Miss
2:30 p.m. CST
Truth be told, even with Alabama and Auburn both playing in huge ones, this may be the biggest game within the conference. The Tigers defense has looked dominant and will be a huge test for Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, who has taken over with Austin Simmons still out due to injury and excelled.
With both teams out to impressive 4-0 starts, this one could go a long way towards determining what the race to get into the SEC championship is looking like as the race starts to heat up next month. Ole Miss is favored by a razor thin 1.5 point margin.
#6 Oregon @ #3 Penn State
6:30 p.m. CST
Normally, fans in the south aren’t going to concern themselves with what’s going on in that other conference up north. This one however may be an exception as Oregon prepares for what will be an electric atmosphere in Beaver Stadium. These are two legitimate national title contenders, and though most eyes will be on the Tide during this time slot, this is beyond worth paying attention to.
The Nittany Lions are favored by 3.5 and will try to grab the biggest win they’ve had in a very long time under James Franklin.
It should be a tremendous Saturday and one you don’t need to be leaving your coach at any time for any reason during.
