2021 leaders announced for Business Council of Alabama’s political arm

ProgressPAC, the state political action committee of the Business Council of Alabama (BCA), on Monday announced the organization’s 2021 board of directors, including a new chairman and vice chairman.

Per a release, Angus Cooper III has been elected to serve as chairman of the ProgressPAC board. He succeeds PowerSouth’s Gary Smith, who recently became chairman of the BCA board of directors.

Cooper has been involved with BCA and ProgressPAC in numerous capacities for several years. The Mobilian currently serves as the president of Cooper/T. Smith, a national leader in the maritime industry based in Alabama’s Port City.

“I am thrilled to serve as ProgressPAC’s next chairman of the board,” stated Cooper. “It is a privilege to be a part of this organization and have a hand in electing pro-business candidates. I am honored to be able to serve the Alabama business community in this way, and I look forward to working with the fellow board members to achieve much success in the coming year.”

Additionally, Kevin Savoy has been elected to serve as vice chairman of the ProgressPAC board. He is the vice president of Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc. of Abbeville and has been an active member of both BCA and ProgressPAC.

“Getting to serve as ProgressPAC vice chairman alongside Angus is a great honor, and I am excited about all we will be able to accomplish this year,” said Savoy. “BCA has assembled an incredible group to work on behalf of the business community, and I see many great things in our future.“

ProgressPAC is the vehicle through which BCA elects, defends, defeats and recruits candidates for state office. It is the driving force behind BCA’s political participation. The ProgressPAC board consists of 39 members from throughout the Yellowhammer State who each bring a unique pro-jobs perspective.

“Angus Cooper and Kevin Savoy have been valuable partners of ProgressPAC and BCA for years, and I am excited to see the continued success under their leadership,” commented Katie Boyd Britt, president and CEO of BCA. “Their many contributions have and will continue to build a better business environment, strengthening and supporting the business community within our state.”
