POINT CLEAR, Ala. — One of the most luxurious properties on the Gulf Coast, Dorgan’s Inn, is up for sale. The three-home property is now on the market, furnishings and all, for a price of a cool $8.9 million.

Currently owned by the Dorgan Family, head of the Mississippi franchise of Krispy Kreme stores, the estate has been used for numerous weddings, parties, and was even featured on season one of MTV’s “Sweet Home Alabama”. The popular wedding spot is lavishly landscaped with an oak tree-dotted yard with flower beds, fountains, a courtyard and even over-sized pots full of native plants on the wharves.

Owned by the Dorgans since 2004, the first building on the property was constructed back in 1848 while the home the Dorgans currently use as a private residence was built sometime in the 1880s. Over the past decade, the family restored both of the original cottages on Mobile Bay, and built an additional home in the same stylistic tradition, as well two wharves, one of which boasts a complete outdoor kitchen.

Marked “Bill and Patty’s,” the completely renovated personal home contains three-bedrooms, 5 1/2 bathes and about 6,000 square feet of living space. The signature part of the house, the upstairs bedrooms, provides a view of the bay and the elegant interior design was done by Augusta Tapia of Mobile.

With over 250 feet on the water, the property also includes a bay house with a less formal style than its neighboring homes. With 4,200 square feet, the Wooden paneled walls and ceilings give the house a more traditional and homey atmosphere. The upstairs contains an open living room with built-in window seating that provides a complete view of the bay.

The newest construction is the guest house which matches the original buildings in style despite being built in a different era. The 2,400 square foot cottage is furnished in namesake fashion and contains a free-standing fireplace and pinewood flooring. Guests, much like anyone staying in any of the three homes, enjoy plenty of shade from trees on the porch with included seating.

The Dorgans, while listing the house for sale, still cherish the memories that have been made at the Inn by them and countless others. “It gave Miss Patty and I a tremendous amount of joy to share our blessings and gifts with so many people,” said Billy Dorgan. “It has been sacred ground.”

The Dorgan’s Inn property is listed with Real Estate agent Chris King of Roberts Brothers Inc. of Mobile.
