The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a public hearing today on Sen. Scott Beason’s, R-Gardendale, SB354, which would allow citizens to carry a loaded gun in their vehicle without a concealed carry permit.
Under Alabama’s current law, individuals must obtain a permit to carry a loaded gun in their car, otherwise they must keep the gun unloaded and locked away out of reach.
Beason sponsored a wide-ranging gun bill last year that included this provision, but it was ultimately not included in the final version, which was passed by the legislature and signed into law by Gov. Bentley.

Last year’s bill made it more difficult for sheriffs to deny concealed-carry permits, clarified Alabama’s open carry laws, and barred employers from prohibiting their employees from keeping a loaded pistol in their car during work, among other things.
