BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — It seems most of the stories you see including the words “police officer” and “young man” in the headline are often filled with details of discord and tension. But Friday afternoon one Alabamian witnessed a refreshing sight—an Alabama police officer lifting up a young man in his community in prayer.

Birmingham native Joey Sanders told Yellowhammer he was stopped at a red light in downtown Birmingham this afternoon when, looking to his left, he saw a Birmingham police officer with two people, one of them a young man.

“I rolled down my window to overhear this officer praying for this young man in the middle,” said Sanders, who posted the scene on Facebook. “I can’t imagine what for, but he probably needs our prayers also.”

“He had one hand on the young man’s shoulder, and his other in the air. He was praying, and not just praying like you might over dinner. He was praying with authority, asking the Lord to come change this young man’s life.”

Moved by the scene, Sanders said he posted it to social media because he though this kind of interaction needs to be witnessed by others.

“This is the kind of story I wanna hear about #goodcop,” said one commenter.
