Openly gay GOP AL-5 candidate Andy Blalock rips Disney ‘caving’ to ‘woke culture’ over Fla. ‘Parental Rights in Education’ bill

A newly enshrined law in the state of Florida, titled “Parental Rights in Education,” forbids educators from teaching about sexual orientation or gender identity to students in kindergarten through third grade.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has engaged in a public war of words with Disney and the cultural left, which has dubbed the law as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, even though the word “gay” is not included in the legislation.

Andy Blalock, Republican candidate for Alabama’s open fifth congressional district seat, blasted Disney over its rhetoric, saying that the multinational entertainment conglomerate had appeased the “woke culture of the radical left.”

Due to being an openly gay educator, Blalock advised that he knew the issue “firsthand.”

“This is not an academic discussion for me. This is my life. Being both a teacher and openly gay married man, I know this issue firsthand,” stated Blalock in a release. “This debate is not about protecting a class of individuals. It is about what is appropriate to teach children. It is about freedom for parent’s rights in education. We don’t need to be sexualizing children at the kindergarten level. Disney is wrong to cave to the wokeness culture that is not helping children and instead negatively exploits the LGBT community.”

The Republican congressional candidate lamented academia’s “progressive culture” and declared his belief that there were only two genders.

“Disney is overreacting to a non-issue. What’s next? Will progressives demand sex ed be taught in pre-school? I strongly believe that the schools are overstepping once again parental rights,” proclaimed Blalock. “It is up to the parents to decide when their children learn about sexual orientation, and for anyone confused about gender I will kindly remind them that there are only 2 genders: MALE and FEMALE. It is not up to the school’s or the progressive culture to make these decisions. In fact, this goes against what our community used to believe that people had freedom of choice.”

Blalock holds the endorsement of the Log Cabin Republicans, a national organization which represents LGBT conservatives.
