  • WATCH: Blount County football fans join together in prayer before game

After it was announced earlier this week that Blount County Schools would no longer allow student or volunteer-led prayer over the intercom before games, fans were worried that their prayer would be silenced.

However, if Friday’s Locust Fork High School game was any indication, prayer in Blount County will continue.

In a video posted on Twitter, the crowd of students and fans can be seen banding together to use the designated pregame moment of silence to fill the stands with the Lord’s Prayer.

  • Mike Rogers on Kavanaugh: ‘It is Doug Jones’ job to represent the majority will in Alabama when he casts his vote in Washington’

Friday during an appearance on Birmingham’s Talk 99.5’s “Matt & Aunie Show,” Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks) weighed in on the current controversy surrounding U.S. Supreme Court associate justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation and how his colleagues in the U.S. Senate are handling the confirmation process to date.

During the segment, Rogers responded to a question about his House colleague Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-Fairhope) calling on Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) to vote for Kavanaugh’s confirmation if Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford did not step forward and announce her intentions to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Calhoun County Republican agreed with Byrne and suggested Jones “represent the majority will” of Alabamians.

  • Ivey, Byrne showcase ‘old-fashioned’ courthouse rally as GOP poised to take Monroe County

    Excerpt:

MONROEVILLE – During Alabama’s transition from Democrat to Republican that began in the 1990s and was capped off in 2010 with the GOP finally gaining control of all the branches of government in Montgomery, the local government in Monroe County was one place that was able to resist that trend.

However, the politics of the state could finally be catching up with one of Alabama’s most historic counties.

In a setting that had the feeling of being a throwback to the heyday of political rallies staged by the likes former Gov. “Big” Jim Folsom and former Congressman Frank Boykin, the Monroe County Republican Party hosted a rally featuring Gov. Kay Ivey and Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-Fairhope) on the lawn of the old Monroe County Courthouse that is thought to be the inspiration for the courthouse in fictitious Maycomb, Alabama, the scene of Harper Lee’s “To Kill A Mockingbird.”

The goal of the event was to energize GOP voters headed into the midterm elections and flip major local offices in Monroe County, including district judge, sheriff and probate judge, currently held by Democrats to Republican.

Former Sheriff David Clarke slams Randall Woodfin for not recognizing federal laws in Birmingham sanctuary city debate

(G. Skidmore/Flickr)

Former Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke appeared this week on “The Ford Faction” to discuss protecting George H. W. Bush on the tragic day of 9/11.

He goes on to discuss Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin calling Birmingham a “welcoming city” that will not work with ICE.

Clarke explains that according to federal law, it is illegal to not enforce federal immigration laws. He says mayors and politicians are subject to federal prison when they don’t enforce federal laws in place.

The frequent Fox News Channel guest tells host Ford Brown that he wonders why mayors are not being charged by the US Attorney’s Office for not enforcing federal laws.

Clarke predicts that the only way to reverse the trend is to make sure the voters turn out to vote.

In conclusion, the former sheriff gives a quick “Roll Tide.”

Alabama’s new $25 million investment fund for start-up companies

(M. Hottle/Facebook)

Matt Hottle joined “The Ford Faction” Thursday from Birmingham, and works for the Alabama Futures Fund (AFF).

AFF has closed a $25 million early-stage venture capital fund, launching the largest seed-stage investment fund in Alabama history.

According to Hottle, AFF will focus its investments in companies across a broad range of industries that exhibit the potential for high growth. AFF is focused on developing a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in Alabama and will only invest in companies that are headquartered in, or willing to relocate to, the state of Alabama.

The fund was conceived to address Alabama’s historically low ranking in funding for early-stage startups. AFF will add meaningful capital to the burgeoning Alabama startup ecosystem while helping to close the funding gap that has hindered startup activity and economic growth in Alabama.

Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale lays out his two-part plan to ensure safety in Jefferson County schools (AUDIO)

(M. Hale/Facebook)

Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale joined Ford in studio Wednesday and laid out his plan to ensure safety in Jefferson County Schools.

Hale said he wants to see the safest county schools in the nation in Alabama.

His plans include placing a School Resource Deputy (SRO) in every Jefferson County school – elementary, middle and high – and forming an assessment team within the School Resource Division to identify students who exhibit specific behavioral patterns that may indicate a need for assistance.

87

Mike Hale said, “Tactical response in schools is different. You have children, you need the proper ammunition, you have to have the proper tacticle plan and our plan not only put a deputy sheriff in every school but it says we think that important in Jefferson County.”

He added, “The mental health component is a big component of the success.”

Jefferson County Schools will set the precedent for leading the nation in school safety.

Alabama Power works to keep the electricity running through any storm (AUDIO)

(Alabama Power/Facebook)

Michael Sznajderman, spokesman for Alabama Power called in today to explain the preparation that goes into hurricane season for Alabama Power.

It is no small ordeal as they were ready to go with sister companies such as Georgia Power and Mississippi Power ready to help out and in turn do the same for them.

He stated that thought it was not a large storm, “48,000 customers across the state were affected” out of the 1.4 million customers they serve in Alabama.

109

“At the peak of the storm, there were 25,000 without power, however, now that number is down to 7,800 now without power,” said Sznajderman.

Alabama Power has been chipping away at those numbers since first light today and will continue to work.

Host Ford Brown went on to ask when does the company turn their attention away from the hurricanes and onto other potential storms around the state, which Sznajderman replied, “We are always watching out for the state no matter what is going on at our state, but November we switch to tornadoes and snowstorms.”

Regions Bank VP of marketing shares how even strangers can be like family in Alabama

(The Ford Faction/YouTube)

Bret Pippen thought it was just going to be another day at Regions tower in downtown Birmingham. However, as he learned about a tragic event, his day stopped. He began to think about what relationships around him actually meant.

Bret, the senior vice president of marketing at Regions Bank, shares this story just months after it happened to show us humanity still exists in this crazy world we live in.

The story begins with Bret building a relationship with Esquire, a shoe shiner.

Eventually, his son, Jamal, starts working there and connecting with Bret. They would talk about anything from marketing strategy to Alabama football. One day, the shoe shine shop was closed, so Bret asked around to see where Esquire and Jamal were. He was informed Jamal had been killed. To Bret’s disbelief, he went and searched it on his computer and there it was.

He had the feeling we all feel when you realize something tragic happens to someone you care about — your stomach sinks to your toes. On one of the busiest meeting days of the year, Bret was headed down to get a snack and passed by the shoe shine stand. As he came around the corner, there was Esquire. Bret had not seen Esquire since before he found out the tragic story about his son.

128

Bret thought to himself, “I’m so busy, not today, I just don’t have time.”

Although, when he walked passed him they locked eyes and Esquire fell into his arms. The tears began to fall and Bret just hugged him. He then saw the line of people there to console Esquire behind him.

Bret said that he did not remember what meeting he missed, but he will always remember those moments with Esquire.

This shows the human side of the crazy world we live in today. In all of the lives of people around us, there are so many of them like Esquire where if we looked up from our phones and connected with people around us, we would realize there are other people out there that need someone to lean on.

Alabama Congressman Mo Brooks hits back at ‘socialist’ opponent over what he calls a defamatory attack

(M. Brooks, P. Joffrion/Facebook)

Mud-slinging is as old as politics itself, but sometimes a line gets crossed and the person attacked fires back in kind.

The Democrat candidate for Congress in Alabama’s fifth Congressional District Peter Joffrion alleged that Congressman Mo Brooks “participated in the scheme by accepting tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions and by signing on to a letter drafted by the conspirators to oppose the EPA’s cleanup efforts,” which implies an unethical and illegal behavior on the Congressman’s part.

Brooks says he never signed such a letter. According to Brooks, the only letter he signed in regard to this matter was signed by six other Alabama Congressmen who represent the area involved and requested a 60-day pause to allow for public comment, which the Obama administration granted.

Congressman Brooks did not hold back when he told WVNN radio and Yellowhammer News what he thought about these accusations.

164

“The accusation that I participated in criminal conduct is patently false. There is zero … evidence to support Peter Joffrion’s accusations. He just made it up for personal gain. The accusation that I signed a letter to oppose the EPA’s clean up efforts, that is patently false. There is zero evidence to support that accusation rendered by Peter Joffrion,” said Brooks.

The facts of this issue do not seem that complex. Joffrion has a campaign that has an uphill battle. He needs attention and he can’t get that by talking about what Brooks calls his “socialistic policies.” This is desperation by Joffrion, but as long as media outlets act like stenographers and just repeat lies sent out via press releases, candidates will continue to behave this way.
