MONTGOMERY – Alabama Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard on Monday announced that Jim Entrekin, Jr., an attorney with an established practice in Jefferson and Shelby Counties, will serve as Legal Counsel for the Office of the Speaker beginning in early November.
“Jim’s years of private and public practice make him a tremendous asset to our team and to the Legislature,” Hubbard said in a statement. “As Republicans continue to shake up the status quo and protect Alabamians rights and values, Jim will play an integral role in ensuring we continue to accomplish these goals.”
For the past 6 years, Entrekin has run his own law and campaign consulting practice, providing counsel for various clients on legal, business, and political matters. His legal practice areas included Appellate Law, Business and Contract Law, and Labor and Employment Law.
In 2007, Entrekin served as a law clerk for Alabama Court of Civil Appeals Judge Terri W. Thomas, providing research, reviewing briefs, and drafting opinions. He went on to work in Gov. Riley’s Policy Department.
Entrekin has helped direct several successful Republican campaigns including two critical wins in seats previously held by long-serving Democrats. He was also recently rumored to be a potential successor to Rep. Mary Sue McClurkin in the Alabama House. McClurkin announced earlier this year that she will not seek re-election in 2014.
Entrekin holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Samford University.
Hubbard’s previous legal counsel, Jason Isbell, left the Speaker’s office earlier this year to take a job as the Vice President of Legal and Governmental Affairs for the Alabama Banker’s Association.
