TUSCALOOSA, Ala.–Alabama running back Tyren Jones was arrested Tuesday for possession of marijuana.

This is the third arrest for Alabama’s football team in four days after the DUI arrest of safety Geno Smith and the domestic violence arrest, charge and dismissal of defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor on Saturday.

Tuscaloosa Police stopped Jones and Brandon Lee Hansberry for speeding and smelled a strong odor of marijuana, per the police report. Officers found digital scales and marijuana in the car that belonged to Hansberry, as well as a small amount of marijuana in the pants pocket of Jones, per the report.

Jones was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and was released on a $1,000 bond.

The 20-year-old running back had already been suspended indefinitely by the team for “conduct not to the standard of the Alabama football program,” according to head coach Nick Saban, on Feb. 10, and had not been seen at practice this Spring.

Yesterday, in reference to Smith’s arrest, Saban said he had never gotten rid of a player on a second incident when it comes to drugs and alcohol.

Jones had 36 carries for 224 yards and two touchdowns in 2014, making him fourth on the team in rushing.

UPDATE: Hours after his arrest, Jones has been officially dismissed from the football team.

“Tyren Jones was indefinitely suspended from the football program early in the semester,” Saban said. “He was given an opportunity academically and from a team rules standpoint, but he failed to do any of the things necessary to comply with the rules of the Alabama football program. He was dismissed from the team when he refused to follow the parameters given to him for reinstatement.”
