ESPN’s College GameDay road show is coming back to Tuscaloosa this weekend for the Crimson Tide’s showdown with SEC West rival LSU, and legendary Alabama weatherman James Spann is lobbying to be the celebrity guest picker.

The show frequently brings in a celebrity guest to join the show’s hosts in making game predictions. Country music star Brad Paisley was the guest picker in Week 1 when Alabama played Wisconsin in Dallas. A second pop-country artist, Eric Church, was the picker for the Alabama-Ole Miss game. Neither of those choices drew rave reviews from the Bama faithful. Alabama football icon Joe Namath was the celebrity guest picker in 2014, which was probably the last time Alabama fans were genuinely excited about the choice.

On Monday, Alabama football fan site BamaHammer.com made the case for why ESPN should step their game up this weekend and invite Alabama’s favorite weatherman to join the GameDay team in Tuscaloosa.

James Spann is a damn treasure to the state of Alabama and don’t you dare say otherwise. James Spann is the weatherman for ABC 33/40 in Birmingham, but more than that, he’s Alabama’s Al Roker.

There is no one in Alabama who doesn’t love James Spann, he’s the guy who is there for you during tornadoes, floods, hurricanes, and when it snows a half inch. He gives you the information you need while comforting you like an old friend. Simply put, James Spann is the greatest weatherman to ever live.

Spann may have gone to Mississippi State, but he’s devoted his life to protecting Alabama from bad weather. He’s always been there for us during inclement weather, let’s be there for him!

More than that Spann loves the state of Alabama and Alabama loves James Spann, you think we are the only ones with this idea?

This is not an entirely new idea. In March of this year, Spann told a fellow meteorologist on Twitter that he’d like to have a shot on GameDay.

And on Monday, Spann responded to the BamaHammer article buy making a promise.
