According to data from the Federal Elections Commission, the fundraising contest for the upcoming Alabama first congressional district election to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. Jo Bonner isn’t really much of contest.
FEC filings reveal Republican hopeful Bradley Byrne outpacing his two closest Republican competitors, Quin Hillyer and Wells Griffith by near almost a two-to-one margin.
Rounding out the fundraising contest are State Rep. Chad Fincher, Dean Young, Jessica James and Sharon Powe respectively, with Daniel Dyas and David “Thunder” Thornton not filing.
Byrne also leads the cash-on-hand contest with over $183,000 followed by Griffith with nearly $88,000. The special Republican party primary election is slated for Sept. 24.
