WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Saks, announced that he and Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va. would be launching a bi-partisan effort to promote public-private partnerships to build and maintain the nation’s infrastructure.
According to a press release put out Tuesday afternoon, their endeavor will be known as the Congressional Caucus on Public-Private Partnerships (P3s), or simply the Congressional P3 Caucus.
“Solid infrastructure is a key driver of good jobs and a growing, competitive economy,” Rogers said in his statement. “We have an enormous backlog of infrastructure needs all across our country, but the Federal government simply can’t fund them all. Nor should Congress raise taxes. Building and maintaining infrastructure is an issue for both rural and urban areas, and I hope this caucus will help advance the debate in Washington and across the country.”
Rogers’ partnership with Connolly makes for an unlikely duo. Connolly represents the 11th congressional district in Virginia, part of the Washington, D.C. suburbs. According to the American Conservative Union 2012 ratings, Connolly had a 6.25 lifetime rating out of 100, while Rogers came in with an 80.15 lifetime rating.
Rogers and Connolly said they would seek out other Members of Congress to join the Caucus, as well as involve public and private sector stakeholders.
