AUBURN, Ala. — An employee at Auburn University was arrested Friday for allegedly trafficking 2-3 gallons of the date rape drug GHB, U.S. Attorney George Beck announced Tuesday.
The drugs, which are delivered by spiking an unsuspecting person’s drink, were allegedly trafficked on Auburn’s campus by Auburn lab technician Stephen Howard.

Howard, who reportedly brandished a gun during the drug bust, is scheduled to have his first detention hearing in court in Montgomery Wednesday.
According to U.S. Attorney Beck, Auburn University is cooperating fully with the investigation.
According to drugs.com, the date-rape drug GHB “is a central nervous system (CNS) depressant,” that can cause euphoria, increased sex drive, and tranquility, as well as loss of consciousness, nausea, hallucinations, amnesia, and coma.
Representatives from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the Auburn Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) also spoke at the press conference.
