Rumors & Rumblings

“Rumors and Rumblings” is a weekly feature that runs each Wednesday. It includes short nuggets of information that we glean from conversations throughout the week. Have a tip? Send it here.

1. A diverse group of interest groups are rumored to be considering a public “coming out” against the Sept. 18 referendum that was a result of the well-publicized 2012 budget shortfall. This has been the center of a lot of chatter among the inside-Montgomery crowd this week. It will be interesting to see who will, and won’t come out in opposition.

2. Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey and Senate Majority Leader Jabo Waggoner (Chair and Vice Chair respectively of the Alabama Delegation to the RNC) have hired former ALGOP fundraiser Kate Anderson to run their Republican National Convention programs and fundraising. Anderson is the founder of Kate Anderson, LLC, a political fundraising firm that has most recently done work for the House and Senate Republican Caucuses. Insiders considered this a great hire as Anderson has quickly gained a reputation for getting results.

3. Yellowhammer mentioned a couple of weeks back that Rep. Randy Davis has been weighing a run for Mayor of Daphne. Sources close to Davis say that he’s still on the fence about whether or not to jump in the race.

4. The Republican members of Alabama’s Congressional delegation are staging a fundraising reception and dinner next week benefiting the National Republican Congressional Committee. NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions as the featured guest. The first page of the invitation is pictured below. For a printable version of the full invitation, click here.
