#33 – Nick Sellers

33 Nick Sellers sqNick Sellers | Vice President, Regulatory & Corporate Affairs | Alabama Power

Sellers has been a steady riser at the power company and is now rapidly expanding his footprint in the broader Birmingham business community. His role as VP of Regulatory & Corporate Affairs is typically filled by executives being bred for even higher leadership slots. Outgoing Alabama Power CEO Charles McCrary once held the same job.

Sellers’ political experience is about as diverse as you’ll find in the state. He was policy director for a Democratic governor, held a position at the Alabama Republican Party, worked at the state’s top Democratic consulting firm, then became the power company’s federal legislative director. His close ties to some of the state’s top Republicans have become a valuable asset to him in recent years. He has strong relationships up and down the Republican ranks, from stalwarts like Sen. Jabo Waggoner and Congressman Mike Rogers, to GOP young guns like Sens. Cam Ward and Slade Blackwell.

His current position is one of the most important to the company’s bottom line. Because Alabama Power is a regulated utility, Sellers has to be constantly aware of any issue coming before the Alabama Public Service Commission that could impact the company’s business. His political chops have served him well as he’s successfully helped APCo navigate the treacherous waters of a PSC being rocked by an onslaught of environmentalists.

A great grasp of policy and political issues and a wealth of relationships and experience on both sides of the aisle — throw in the Power Company’s resources and you’ve got a formidable combination.
